The Jamaica Golf Association recently held its Heroes Golf Classic at the Sandals Golf and Country Club in St. Ann, introducing a special WAGR section for selected golfers to compete in a unique format. This section required golfers to play 54 holes over two days, condensing the typical three-day tournament into a more challenging schedule of 27 holes per day.
In the male section of the WAGR challenge, Zandre Roye emerged victorious with impressive scores of par 71, one over par 72, and par 71 for a combined total of one over par 214. Following closely behind was Ohae Haye, who shot a low round of two under par 69 in the first round and finished with a total score of five over par 218. Pro golfer Orville Christie secured third place with a score of 219.
On the female side, junior golfer Mattea Issa showcased her skills in the WAGR challenge, finishing with a combined score of 20 over par 233 after posting consistent rounds of 83, 85, and 75. All players who participated in the WAGR section earned valuable points towards their international golf rankings.
In other categories of the classic, William Lee claimed the top spot in the Men’s and Men’s Senior 0-6 division, while Keith Stein dominated the Men’s Super Senior 0-12 category. Desi Collins emerged victorious in the Men’s Super Senior 13-24 section, showcasing the diverse talents within the Jamaican golfing community.
The Heroes Golf Classic also welcomed junior golfers to compete alongside the seniors, with players like Shasa Redlefsen, Jacob Schnoor, and Alessandra Coe showcasing their skills on the course. The classic was played a week earlier than usual to allow Jamaica to participate in the Caribbean Golf Association’s 4-Ball Championship, where the country has a history of success.
