The Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) has strengthened its healthcare logistics with the addition of four new maintenance vehicles. These vehicles were officially handed over on October 17 during the opening ceremony for the $50 million Adelphi Health Centre in St. James.
Supporting Healthcare Across Western Jamaica
The newly acquired vehicles are set to enhance healthcare services in the parishes of St. James, Hanover, Trelawny, and Westmoreland. Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, highlighted that these units will play a critical role in maintaining health facilities and ensuring the smooth movement of tools, goods, and personnel.
“[The vehicles] will now support the logistics of the movement of tools, goods, and personnel, ensuring the consistent upkeep of hospitals and health facilities,” Dr. Tufton stated.
Importance of Vehicle Maintenance
Dr. Tufton emphasized the need for proper maintenance of the vehicles and encouraged staff to handle WRHA’s assets responsibly, ensuring their long-term efficiency. “It is important that the vehicles are properly maintained,” he noted, calling for caution and responsibility in their use.
Boosting Healthcare Services in Adelphi
The Adelphi Health Centre, now a 4,262-square-foot facility, was opened as part of the Poverty Reduction Programme (PRP). Implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) and funded by the European Union (EU), the centre is expected to serve around 2,000 community members each month with improved healthcare services.
“The team [is] assessing needs and always making the right steps to keep healthcare operations running smoothly,” Dr. Tufton added, praising WRHA’s efforts to meet the region’s healthcare demands.
