CAMBRIDGE, Jamaica — A man known as Romario Sergeant, also called ‘World Boss’ or ‘Serg’, was fatally shot during a confrontation with police on Camp Road, Cambridge, on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Sergeant, a 27-year-old resident of Camp Road, was reportedly involved in multiple violent incidents, including at least three murders in St. James.
The incident unfolded when officers from the Area One Fugitive Apprehension Team (AFAT) were conducting surveillance in the Camp Road area. Upon spotting Sergeant leaving a property shirtless and carrying a firearm in his waistband, the officers approached him and identified themselves.
Sergeant allegedly drew his firearm and aimed it at the police, prompting the officers to return fire. The exchange of gunfire resulted in Sergeant being struck. He was later found lying in the yard with the weapon still in his possession.
Emergency services transported Sergeant to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities recovered a pistol with a magazine containing five .45 cartridges from the scene.
Sergeant had been under police scrutiny for some time, being linked to several murders and other criminal activities in the Cambridge and St. James areas.
The incident has prompted investigations by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) to ensure proper protocols were followed during the police operation.
