STATHS Coach Stresses Consistency as Key to Manning Cup Success
The battle for supremacy in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition continues to heat up as teams strive for a spot in the final. ST Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) Head Coach Philip Williams believes that consistency will be the key factor in determining his team’s success in the tournament.
After a dominant performance in their final group stage match against Haile Selassie High School, where they secured a commanding 5-0 victory, STATHS finished at the top of Group D with 25 points, two points ahead of Calabar. Williams praised his team’s performance but emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency throughout the competition.
“We know that we have the quality in this team, but it is the consistency that we are working on, and we have been working day in, day out so that we can have consistency at all times,” Williams said. “Getting back to the Manning Cup final is definitely the aim every year that we start out. We know it is a long stretch from now so we are just focusing on one game at a time.”
Despite their youth, the STATHS team has shown confidence and ambition to go all the way this year. Williams commended their performance and highlighted their dedication to training as a key factor in their success so far.
“It is a pretty young team, but they are confident, and I think their confidence comes from what we do in training. They have shown that they can play, and they have been playing some good football so far,” he added.
On the other side, Haile Selassie Assistant Coach Neville Walters attributed his team’s poor showing this season to a lack of discipline among the players. He acknowledged that the team’s internal divisions and lack of training had a negative impact on their performance throughout the competition.
STATHS showcased their dominance in the match against Haile Selassie, with goals from Dwayne Atkinson and Christiano Brown securing the victory. The team’s strong first-half performance set the tone for the game, and they continued to outplay their opponents in the second half to seal the win.
As the competition progresses, STATHS will be looking to build on their impressive form and maintain their consistency as they aim to secure a spot in the Manning Cup final. With the determination and talent displayed by the team, they are well-positioned to make a strong push for the championship title.
The road to Manning Cup glory is filled with challenges, but with their eyes set on the prize, STATHS is ready to give their all and show why they are a force to be reckoned with in Jamaican schoolboy football.
