The accomplishments of Jamaican stalwarts were celebrated at the National Civil Honours and Awards Celebratory Luncheon held at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on October 22, 2024. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Enhancement Fund, recognized the achievements of four national awardees from the previous day’s national awards ceremony at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
Anup Chandiram Chatani, CEO of Bijoux, was honored with the Order of Distinction, Officer Class. Professor Andrew Spencer, president of the Caribbean Maritime University, received the Order of Distinction, Commander Class. Audrey Marks, Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, was awarded the Order of Jamaica, and Edmund Bartlett, minister of tourism, also received the Order of Jamaica.
Marks expressed gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging the collective efforts that have supported her journey. She emphasized the resilience and passion that drive success in Jamaica, regardless of gender, race, or religion.
The luncheon featured a performance by reggae artist Leroy Sibbles, who was joined by dancehall legend Moses “Beenie Man” Davis for an impromptu set that energized the crowd. Davis, who received the Order of Distinction Officer class, added to the celebratory atmosphere of the event.
The function was attended by family and well-wishers of the awardees, with moments of celebration and reflection on the achievements of these distinguished individuals. The event showcased the diverse talents and contributions of Jamaican professionals across various fields, underscoring the importance of recognizing and honoring excellence in the nation.
