Kingston, Jamaica – After an eight-year hiatus, reggae sensation Warrior King is poised to break his silence with the upcoming release of his sixth album, titled “Resurgence.” Scheduled to hit the airwaves in the first quarter of 2025, this nine-track masterpiece will include two collaborations and aims to reaffirm the artist’s enduring presence in the reggae scene.
Warrior King, renowned for iconic hits like “Virtuous Woman” and “Never Go Where Pagans Go,” revealed his aspirations for “Resurgence” in an exclusive interview with Observer Online on Tuesday.
“‘Resurgence’ will make music lovers know that I’m here to stay and a force to be reckoned with,” Warrior King stated. “It will also show my versatility and bring about a fresh-sounding Warrior King that even the youth can relate to as well. My music will always be positive, empowering, inspirational, educational, and entertaining.”
Reflecting on his musical evolution since his last project, Warrior King emphasized his growth both in songwriting and vocal control. He noted that his hands-on involvement in the creative process has significantly enhanced the quality of his work. “My growth and development will be obvious because anything that doesn’t grow or develop will become extinct. My writing skills and my vocal control have improved immensely, and I’m more instrumental in the creative process of my music production,” he added.
“Resurgence” will be spearheaded by its lead single, “Once Strangers,” a heartfelt track inspired by his relationship with his wife, Lesley. Warrior King shared, “‘Once Strangers’ was inspired by the love I have for my wife and how we met. It’s like nostalgia and at the same time appealing to husbands to love their wives more and vice versa. Black love is beautiful.”
Warrior King first made waves on the reggae scene with his chart-topping single “Virtuous Woman” in 2001, which dominated local charts for nine weeks. His discography is rich with tracks like “Breath of Fresh Air,” “Hold Da Faith,” and “Can’t Get Me Down,” establishing his place in reggae history.
Adapting to the technological shifts in the music industry, Warrior King highlighted the transition from analog to digital platforms. “I came from the analog era where we used cassettes, vinyl, and CDs to promote music. But now with the internet and globalization with social media, it has made it much easier to keep the fans across the globe updated with what is going on in my career,” he said.
Warrior King’s previous albums include “Virtuous Woman” (2002), “Hold the Faith” (2005), “Love is in the Air” (2009), “Tell Mi How Mi Sound” (2011), and “The Rootz Warrior” (2016). Throughout his career, he has experienced several highlights, but one stands out above all.
“The highlight which resonates with me the most was when the former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, made mention of I, Warrior King, to be one of his favorite reggae artistes,” he reminisced.
As the anticipation builds for “Resurgence,” fans both old and new can look forward to an album that promises not just to echo Warrior King’s past successes but also to unveil new dimensions of his artistry and message, solidifying his place as a luminary in reggae music.
