KINGSTON, Jamaica – Less than two weeks after his highly anticipated release from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, dancehall legend Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer is making headlines again—this time for the wrong reasons. During a TikTok live session, the artist allegedly threatened a woman, whom social media users speculate might be his fiancée, Sidem Öztürk.
The incident occurred on a Thursday evening when Vybz Kartel, with his lawyer Isat Buchanan by his side, took to the social media platform to presumably reconnect with fans. During a supposed ‘commercial break’, Vybz Kartel was overheard threatening to “box dung” a woman, implying a physical assault. The woman, only identifiable by her voice, had asked for the WiFi password, prompting the irate response from the deejay.
Believing that the live session was paused, the deejay seemed taken aback when his lawyer informed him otherwise. Realizing the severity of the situation, Kartel instructed the camera personnel to delete the incriminating segment. However, viewers had already witnessed the exchange.
“My girl, a who yuh deh yah a chat to?” Kartel questioned, to which the woman replied, “The WiFi was out.”
In an attempt to downplay the situation, Buchanan jocularly urged viewers to “unsee” the incident, saying, “Da part deh cyah delete. Unsee it, unsee it, remove it.” However, the damage was already done, and clips of the incident began circulating rapidly on various platforms.
The incident has since caused an uproar on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where many users expressed their outrage and disappointment.
“This man needs to focus on his health and rebranding himself. This is a different era. Seems like prison was a waste of time, same arrogant prick,” one user commented.
“Jamaica, put him back in prison! Back in prison,” another user posted.
Kartel, who was released on July 31 after the Court of Appeal decided against retrying him for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, has now found himself in fresh controversy just days into his newfound freedom. His release had initially been met with a mixed reaction, as fans celebrated while critics remained skeptical of his reintegration into society.
As the footage continues to circulate, it remains to be seen how this latest episode will affect Vybz Kartel’s career and public image, both of which have been under intense scrutiny since his release.
