The ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition continues to heat up as former champions Frome Technical and Glenmuir High, along with Happy Grove, have secured their spots in the round of 16 after wins in Saturday’s second set of games in the round of 32.
Frome Technical showcased their dominance by blanking Black River High 2-0 in a double-header at St. Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex. Glenmuir High followed suit with a similar victory margin over Titchfield High, guaranteeing their advancement from Group 7.
Happy Grove also secured their passage to the next round after a hard-fought 4-3 win over Denbigh High. The top two teams from each group will move on to the round of 16, making every match crucial for the remaining schools.
In other games, defending champions Clarendon College came from behind to defeat Paul Bogle High 3-1, while Ocho Rios put themselves in a good position to advance after a convincing 4-0 victory over Cedric Titus High.
Meanwhile, Kemps Hill High and Rusea’s High are currently tied at the top of Group 1 with four points each. Kemps Hill claimed a 2-1 victory over Spot Valley High, thanks to early goals from Allan Banton and Shemar Daley. Rusea’s High, on the other hand, managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Cornwall College after a late penalty conversion.
