Kingston, Jamaica – Renowned for his dedication and transformative impact on communities, former Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor has been appointed Director of Security at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. McGregor, who recently retired from a laudable 40-year career with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), will be succeeding Norman Heywood in the pivotal role.
After a distinguished tenure in law enforcement, McGregor continues his commitment to public safety and security. His recent academic achievement — a Master of Science in Security Studies from the Caribbean Maritime University — underscores his preparedness for this new chapter at UWI Mona.
Throughout his career with the JCF, McGregor has been a beacon of leadership. He significantly contributed to the transformation and stabilization of the Rockfort community, which had previously been plagued by high crime rates. McGregor’s extensive resume includes tenures as general secretary of the Jamaica Police Federation in 1996, and he was a recipient of the prestigious LASCO Award in the year 2000 and a national award in 2015.
