Gregg Berhalter’s second term as head coach of the U.S. men’s soccer team has reportedly been cut short.
The Associated Press reported that Berhalter was fired after the team’s first-round exit from the Copa America raised questions about his fitness to do his job ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
In interviews with The Associated Press, sources said an official announcement from the U.S. Soccer Federation was likely to come later Wednesday.
During Berhalter’s second tenure, the U.S. has seven wins, six losses and one draw, giving it a career record of 44 wins, 17 losses and 13 draws, according to the Associated Press.
The team is scheduled to play friendlies against Canada and New Zealand in September.
