Jamaica — Two rifles and a large amount of ammunition were seized by police during an intelligence-led operation in the Grange Hill, Kings Valley area of Westmoreland on Monday, July 8th.
According to reports, at about 3.30pm, a joint team consisting of the Westmoreland District Intelligence Unit (DIU) and other local police teams responded to the scene and searched an abandoned wooden building in an area overgrown with vegetation.
During the search, police reportedly found two rifles, one of which was identified as a Colt AR-15 rifle. The weapon was found along with two M16 magazines containing 49 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition.
A further search of the surrounding hills led officers to a shed where they seized two Level 3 tactical vests.
No arrests were made during the operation and the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Westmoreland Police continue to appeal to the public to come forward with any information that can assist in efforts to eradicate illegal firearms and make the community safer.
