Tropical Wave to Bring Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms to Jamaica
Kingston, Jamaica — October 14, 2024
Residents of Jamaica are being warned to brace for significant weather changes this week as a tropical wave is set to make its presence felt across the island. According to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected to start impacting the region from Tuesday through Friday.
The tropical wave, as explained by weather authorities, is predicted to merge with a developing area of low pressure located southwest of the island by Tuesday night. This meteorological event is expected to bring sustained cloudy conditions accompanied by periods of intense downpours and thunderstorms. These weather patterns are likely to affect sections of most parishes, with a particular emphasis on southern areas.
In addition to the rainfall, the weather service has projected strong and gusty winds, particularly prevalent across the southern parishes and adjacent marine areas. These conditions pose a potential risk to those venturing into the sea.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has urged fishers and other marine interests, especially on the south coast, to exercise extreme caution. The combination of adverse sea conditions, strong gusty winds, and thunderstorms could lead to hazardous situations both inshore and offshore.
Authorities are advising all residents, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to stay informed and take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property during this period of adverse weather.
