Port of Spain, Trinidad – Authorities are investigating the death of a 37-year-old seafarer whose body was discovered on a vessel that sailed from Suriname and docked in Port of Spain on Sunday.
Seafarer Death Investigation
Police reported receiving a call from investigators aboard the container ship. The captain informed them that the ship’s cook, Raknin Oleksandr, was found drunk when the ship departed Suriname on Saturday night. He was later found unresponsive.
Upon boarding the vessel, police discovered Oleksandr’s room had been ransacked. His naked body was found on the bed with assault marks on his right arm and face. The investigation is ongoing.
Stabbing Incident in Freeport
In a separate incident, police are investigating the stabbing death of a Venezuelan man, identified as Fage Augusta, in Freeport, located in Trinidad’s central west.
Authorities reported that Augusta was killed during an argument with a relative on Sunday night. He was transported to Couva Hospital in central Trinidad, where he succumbed to his injuries early Monday morning. No arrests have been made.
