ST ELIZABETH, JAMAICA — The quiet parish of St Elizabeth was jolted by tragedy on Sunday night, September 8, as two motorcyclists lost their lives in separate collisions, and a man involved in one of the accidents is now in police custody.
The victims have been identified as Shane Shaw, 28, a resident of Whithorn district, and Odane Parchment. These incidents have sent ripples of grief through their respective communities.
According to reports, the first crash occurred around 6:30 pm on the Holland Bamboo main road when a motor car collided with Shaw’s motorcycle. The impact was so severe that Shaw was flung from his bike. He was quickly transported to the hospital but unfortunately was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In a turn of events that raised eyebrows, the driver of the car involved in Shaw’s accident fled the scene immediately after the crash. However, he turned himself in to the Lacovia police station the following morning. Subsequent investigations revealed a startling fact: the driver does not possess a valid driver’s license.
In the second incident, another heart-wrenching episode unfolded on the Newell main road. Preliminary reports from the police indicate that Parchment was struck while riding his motorcycle. Similar to Shaw, Parchment was taken to the hospital, but medical officials pronounced him dead shortly after.
Both incidents underline the dire need for stricter road safety measures and enforcement of driving laws to prevent such heartbreaking occurrences. The community mourns the loss of two lives cut short and clamors for justice and improved safety measures on the roads.
