KINGSTON, Jamaica— Olympic finalist Tia Clayton captured her first Wanda Diamond League victory with an impressive performance, clocking a wind-aided 10.83 seconds (2.9m/s) in the women’s 100m event at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. The race, held at Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland, marked the 12th stop of the Wanda Diamond League series.
In a thrilling finish, Clayton tied with Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou, both recording the same time, while American sprinter Tamari Davis finished closely behind with a time of 10.84 seconds, securing third place. This race follows Clayton’s fifth-place finish at the Lausanne Diamond League, her debut on the circuit just days before.
“I entered this race with just one goal—to do my best without setting any particular expectations,” said Clayton, the 19-year-old who finished seventh in the 100m final at the recent Olympic Games. “After the Olympics, I pushed myself even harder in training, and it’s truly gratifying to see that hard work pay off here.”
Natasha Morrison also represented Jamaica in the event, finishing ninth with a time of 11.07 seconds.
Clayton’s victory is a significant milestone in her budding career and a promising sign of what the future holds for this young Jamaican sprinter.
