Trelawny, Jamaica — In a recent announcement during the 60th Annual Conference of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) held in Trelawny, Education Minister Fayval Williams provided an important update regarding the status of several schools in Jamaica that have yet to be gazetted. The assurance was given that these schools would receive their gazetted status by the end of the year.
Minister Williams highlighted that while numerous schools were successfully gazetted in the past six months, three schools—Nain High School and Aberdeen High School in St. Elizabeth, and Lyssons Centre of Excellence in St. Thomas—were not included in that recent list.
“Within the last six months, we have gazetted a long list of schools. Unfortunately, Nain, Aberdeen, and Lyssons were not in that long list,” stated Williams.
However, the minister reassured attendees that progress is being made and that the required cabinet submission is currently with the Parliamentary Council. This signals that the next step, presenting to the Cabinet, is imminent.
The affirmation came in response to a query from JTA past president La Sonja Harrison, who sought an update during the question and answer session of the conference.
With these advancements, the Ministry of Education showcases its commitment to ensuring all educational institutions meet the necessary legal and administrative standards to enhance the quality of education across Jamaica.
