It was another big outing for the Jamaica Classic Car Club, as members headed to Hope Gardens in St. Andrew as the club’s monthly meeting coincided with Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16th.
“It was a great success! It was a joy to see all the members, guests and visitors, including the fathers, enjoying the conference. It was well attended and everyone had a great time. Our team worked hard to make the event the best it could be for everyone,” said JCCC President Naresh Potopsingh.
Jamaica Observer’s weekly motoring magazine.
Classic cars continued to arrive throughout the early afternoon, catching up with the steady stream of families in the area.
Potopsin said the event attracted 70 cars, including a mix of European, American and Japanese classics, as well as cars from the future and the past.
The crowd watched the procession of cars intently, reminiscing and making new memories on their cell phone cameras.
One trend that consistently generated discussion was the methods classic car owners were using to keep their beloved vehicles on the road.
A Ferrari 400i sedan, normally powered by a V12 engine, had a Chevrolet engine under its hood, eliciting double looks and plenty of conversation, while on the other side of the venue patrons marveled at the ingenuity required to fit a motorcycle engine into a small classic car, a Suzuki Cappuccino.
Heavy rain did little to scare off the interested crowd, but it did cancel a treasure hunt the club had planned for the event.
“Our leadership team was busy serving patrons and just as we were preparing for the announcement, it started raining. Therefore, in consideration of the situation, we decided to postpone the treasure hunt,” Potopsin explained.
