Anticipation is building as the 10 innovators count down to Thursday, June 27, 2024 to see who will win the coveted Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards 2024 Best (New) Local Product award. The innovators, ranging from small, medium and large businesses, met with Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards creator Novia McDonald-White, Derimon Trading Co. Founder and CEO Derrick Cotterell and the 10-member Food Awards judges at the AC Hotel Kingston on Tuesday, May 30, and agreed that the wealth of knowledge gained was the real prize.
The 12 judges had their taste buds satiated and thrilled with delicious dishes and sweet treats paired with the innovative food items being judged.
“Usually we get a huge amount of sauce sent to us, which is totally fine because Jamaica is ‘the land of sauces’, so we don’t want to discourage the sauce makers,” Cotterell said while welcoming the unique creations from the 10 participants.
This year’s lineup included coffee bread fruit punch, pepper jelly and coffee tea bags from Camgar Farms, coconut oil from Sally’s Gourmet Kitchen, Smith’s latest rum cream, ginger beet ketchup and turmeric juice from Lincoln’s, cassava pancake mix from Nella’s, an assortment of jellies and sauces from chef Mark Cole, a bold iteration of Max from Supligen, yellow yum vodka from Wait A Bit and vegan cheese from WellGood.
“We’ve got a wide range of companies taking part this evening, from larger companies like Seprod to people in Clarendon who have a bit of space and have decided to make a product. Overall, the products were very good and I can speak for all the judges and say there were some fantastic presentations,” Mr Cotterell said.
Thursday Food concludes its two-part series with the final five of the 10 innovations.
