Police have charged two teenagers with conspiring to create fake investment pages on Facebook to gain financial benefits.
The 17-year-olds have been charged with obtaining property by fraud and conspiracy to violate the Amended (Special) Fraudulent Transactions Act.
Police said that at approximately 10am on Monday, July 8, they searched the mobile phones of the two young people with their permission.
Police said they found evidence of a conspiracy to create fake investment pages on Facebook and encourage people to invest in the platform in order to make financial gain.
A questioning session was held in the presence of the defendants’ parents and lawyers, after which the charges were handed down.
