Kingston, Jamaica — The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) is set to perform a crucial surgery on an 11-year-old girl grappling with a severe case of scoliosis, following an announcement by Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton. During a media briefing held on Thursday at the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston, Dr. Tufton shared encouraging developments regarding the young patient’s medical journey.
Dr. Tufton revealed that UHWI has made arrangements to allocate the necessary resources and support for the much-needed procedure. "I’m happy to report that, as of now, UHWI has taken the necessary steps to make an operating theatre available for the upcoming surgery. Discussions with the lead clinician, Dr Carl Bruce, and his team at UHWI, have ensured that all required equipment and staff will be in place to facilitate the procedure," he announced.
In a race against time, consultations are actively ongoing with a visiting medical team to determine if the surgery can be performed before their scheduled departure on Friday, October 25. "We are hopeful that all essential personnel and facilities will be readily available," Dr. Tufton added, underscoring the urgency and collaborative spirit of the endeavor.
