KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reggae singer, philanthropist and author Sophia Brown says she has always been an advocate for positivity.
The entertainer told Observer Online that he prides himself on using his talent for good, which means creating songs that inspire people to feel empowered. To this end, the singer enlisted the help of Turbulence to curate his latest single, “Look.”
The single is an ode to her personal mantra, “words are power,” and entertainer Brown said it focuses on empowerment. According to Brown, society today can be a very apathetic and ugly place, where people spew hate instead of love and light, and she simply wanted to be a vessel for the latter.
“When I came up with this song, I wrote it with every human being in mind. I wanted to uplift those who have low self-confidence. In today’s world, we are so quick to say nasty things to each other, sometimes without realizing how powerful that can be,” she said. “I wanted to do something different, something that’s actually healing. I want people to ‘see’ themselves and feel good about themselves. With this song, I want to teach self-love, because self-love is the greatest love of all. If you love yourself and are genuinely happy, you can make the world a brighter place.”
Brown said that given the message she wanted to convey with the song, she could only think of one entertainer who would be a perfect fit for it. She told Observer Online that the collaboration would be magical, as Turbulence’s track record is filled with songs that embody messages of love, purity and uplifting.
“Having Turbulence on the song with his positive vibes really accentuates this message. He was the perfect person for this song; when I thought about collaborating on this song, his musical energy immediately came to mind,” she said. “I sent him the song to see if he liked it and the rest is history. His work ethic is impeccable, I have to admit that. I was in awe of how he mastered the emotions needed to make this song resonate with listeners.”
The single was produced by Brown on his own label, Music Mecca Records, distributed by Zojack Worldwide and released on all digital platforms on Friday.
