Energy Minister Daryl Vaz indicated that some areas of Portland that have been without electricity and water since Wednesday should have service restored by Monday.
An announcement made over the weekend revealed that, based on the latest report from the Jamaica Public Service, the main power line from Hectors River to Folly was repaired on Saturday and is expected to be energized on Sunday, meaning the main corridor and surrounding areas will soon have electricity. Reconnections are expected to continue throughout the week.
The statement also said another power line, from Dover to Port Antonio, would be energized on Monday and connections to the mains and associated feeders would be restored. Repairs would also begin in the affected areas.
The parish has been without public services since Hurricane Beryl passed through on Wednesday.
Power has also been restored and water service is expected to resume at Grants Level Water Pumps and the Charles Town Water Plant, according to the release.
