LIMA, Peru — Jamaica’s Shaiquan Dunn has advanced to the final of the men’s shot put at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships held at Estadio Atletico de la Videna in Lima, Peru. Dunn’s impressive throw of 19.53 meters in the qualifying round secured his place in Tuesday evening’s final.
Dunn ranked fifth in his group and sixth overall among a competitive field, where only four athletes surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 19.70 meters. Leading the qualifiers was Germany’s Georg Harpf, who threw a notable 20.32 meters. Alexandr Mazur set a Moldovan national Under-20 record with a 20.11-meter throw, closely followed by South Africa’s JL Van Rensburg with a personal best of 20.00 meters, and Yannick Rolvink of the Netherlands, who achieved 19.97 meters.
During the qualifying round, Dunn’s performance demonstrated consistency and improvement. He initially threw 18.67 meters, then advanced to 19.35 meters, finally reaching 19.53 meters to secure his place in the final.
Dunn is set to compete in the discus throw later this week, adding to his ambitious athletic schedule at the championships.
