KINGSTON, Jamaica – Roshawn Clarke continues to shine on the global athletics stage as he qualified for the finals of the men’s 400m hurdles at the Stade de France. The young Jamaican athlete placed second in his semi-final heat on Wednesday with an impressive time of 48.34 seconds.
Clarke’s perseverance and athleticism have earned him back-to-back qualifications to major championship finals. His recent performance follows a fourth-place finish at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in 2023, and a bronze medal win at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships the previous year. During Wednesday’s heat, Clarke started strong and demonstrated his prowess by battling France’s Wilfried Happio over the final three hurdles to secure his spot behind American hurdler Rai Benjamin, who won the heat with a time of 47.85 seconds.
Unfortunately, the news wasn’t as promising for his fellow countrymen. National champion Malik James-King had a challenging race. Despite showing great promise by running in second place and shaving more than two seconds off his lifetime best this year, James-King clipped the final hurdle and finished in seventh place. Jaheel Hyde also faced difficulties, finishing seventh in his heat.
The focus now shifts to Clarke as he prepares for the finals, where all eyes will be on him to see if he can bring home a medal for Jamaica.
