Former national champion and World Athletics Championships semi-finalist, Rohan Watson, had an impressive performance at the Grand Prix Lombardia Brescia 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event. Watson secured his first 100m final win of the season on Sunday, showcasing his talent and speed on the track.
Despite facing a strong headwind, Watson clocked a time of 10.48 seconds (-2.8m/s) in the 100m final, finishing ahead of his compatriot Michael Campbell who crossed the line in 10.53 seconds to claim second place. Janns Fernandez from Cuba took the third spot with a time of 10.54 seconds.
This victory marked Watson’s second win of the season, with his previous win coming in the men’s 100m heat at the Miramar Invitational in early April. The Jamaican sprinter displayed his strength and determination in the face of tough competition.
In other events at the Grand Prix Lombardia Brescia 2024, Natasha Morrison placed third in the women’s 100m with a time of 11.43 seconds (-2.4m/s). Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith of the Ivory Coast took first place in 11.28 seconds, followed by Great Britain’s Daryll Neita in second with 11.31 seconds.
Additionally, Stephenie-Ann McPherson finished fourth in the women’s 400m, Yanique Thompson placed fourth in the 100m hurdles, Lamara Distin secured fifth place in the women’s high jump, and Janieve Russell came in sixth in the women’s 400m hurdles.
Overall, Rohan Watson’s victory at the Grand Prix Lombardia Brescia 2024 showcased his skill and determination on the track, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead for the talented Jamaican sprinter.
