Legendary Jamaican deejay Papa Kojak, known for his hit songs in the late 1970s, has passed away at the age of 68. The artist, whose real name is Floyd Anthony Perch, died in Linstead, St Catherine, on September 12th.
Papa Kojak rose to fame with his collaborations with singer Liza, producing popular tracks such as Hole In de Bucket, Fist to Fist, and Bam Bam. His music resonated with audiences both in Jamaica and abroad, with his songs charting well in the United Kingdom.
One of his most notable singles, Hole In de Bucket, paid tribute to the legendary Dennis Brown and was produced by Joe Gibbs. Papa Kojak’s music often touched on controversial and social issues, with his song Green Bay Killing shedding light on a tragic incident involving the Jamaica Defence Force.
Despite his success in the music industry, Papa Kojak eventually faded from the spotlight in the late 1980s. However, his legacy and impact on Jamaican music remain undeniable.
