STUTTGART, Germany — Reigning Olympic champion Hansle Parchment is set to defend his title in the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the upcoming Paris Games. Despite a relatively quiet season, Parchment remains confident and well-prepared.
With a season’s best time of 13.19 seconds, achieved last month at Kingston’s National Stadium, Parchment is positioned as the third-fastest Jamaican this year. He trails national champion Rasheed Broadbell and Orlando Bennett, both of whom clocked 13.18 seconds and finished ahead of Parchment in the national championships.
In a recent interview with Observer Online, Parchment expressed his readiness for the Olympics. “I’ve been feeling good and everything is going well. I’m mentally and physically prepared for the challenges ahead,” he said. “Having had time to settle in and focus on training without distractions, I feel I’m at a higher level than I was during the qualifiers.”
Parchment’s personal best of 12.93 seconds and his current season’s best rank him as the 18th fastest in the world this year. The fastest time globally belongs to American Grant Holloway, who has clocked 12.86 seconds.
Parchment’s confidence and preparation suggest he will be a strong contender to retain his Olympic title in Paris.
