MADRID, Spain (AFP) — Spanish giants Real Madrid have announced that Kylian Mbappe will be officially introduced as a new player at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium next Tuesday.
The confirmation came less than 24 hours after the former Paris Saint-Germain star and France were eliminated by Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-finals.
The club announced on Wednesday that Mbappe, who will wear the number nine shirt, will be presented at the Bernabeu at noon on Tuesday (10am GMT) and will be welcomed by Real president Florentino Pérez, signing a five-year contract.
The France captain has had a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, being hampered by a broken nose in the opening match against Austria and then missing a late chance to equalise in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Spain.
Mbappe is due to make his first official appearance for the Spanish and European champions when they defend La Liga against Real Mallorca on the weekend of August 17-18, before making his first appearance at the Bernabeu a week later when Madrid are at home to newly promoted Real Valladolid.
Mbappe joined Real as a free agent on a reported annual salary of 15 million euros ($16.2 million), with bonuses of more than 100 million euros on his move to the Spanish capital.
