Kingston, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has strongly condemned a horrific gun attack in Clarendon that took place on Sunday night, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least eight people and leaving nine others injured. The incident has been described by Holness as “reprehensible, brutal, and senseless.”

The circumstances surrounding the massacre remain unclear, but initial reports suggest that it may have been the result of an ongoing feud between rival gangs. The Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for justice and expressed his deep condolences to the families affected by this tragic event.

“I condemn this reprehensible, brutal and senseless attack which resulted in several people in Clarendon being killed. I extend my deepest condolences to all families who are affected by this tragedy,” Holness stated.

In response to the attack, Holness revealed that he has communicated with the Police High Command, urging them to deploy all necessary resources to bring those responsible to justice swiftly. “The Jamaican State will not countenance such savagery being meted out to our people. We will respond strongly,” he asserted.

A meeting of the National Security Council has been scheduled for Monday at 9:00 AM to address the devastating incident and outline the government’s next steps. Sunday’s violence has underscored the ongoing struggles in combating gang-related criminal activity in Jamaica, despite a noteworthy 17 percent reduction in murders this year.

Holness reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying efforts against criminal gangs, ensuring that the reductions in violent crime achieved thus far continue to trend downwards. “We will not relent in efforts to reduce criminality, and we will not surrender our society to criminals. I wish to assure the nation that my Government will continue to pursue a multi-faceted approach as we support the security forces in the bid to further successfully reduce violent crime,” Holness added.

He also called upon the community for assistance, encouraging anyone with information regarding the attack to come forward and speak to the police.

The situation remains fluid as authorities continue their investigation into this tragic and violent episode.
