Kingston, Jamaica — A serious incident involving a member of the Beat Officer Patrol Division (BOPD), which reports to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), has left the officer hospitalized after he was struck by a motorist during a routine traffic stop on Thursday.
According to information obtained by Observer Online, the incident occurred when the officer, whose identity has been withheld, pulled over a motorist for a traffic violation. An altercation ensued when the motorist objected to being recorded by the police bodycam.
During the confrontation, the motorist allegedly grabbed the officer and then drove off, striking him and pinning him under the vehicle. Disturbingly, the vehicle ran over the officer’s head, causing severe injuries.
The injured officer was immediately rushed to the hospital, although his current condition remains unknown. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding his medical status.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has issued a request for prayers and support for the injured officer, who is presently receiving urgent medical care.
This incident underscores the risks faced by law enforcement officers during the course of their duties and has prompted renewed discussions on the safety measures in place for traffic stops.
