Netball Jamaica to Hold Long-Awaited AGM and Elections
After more than three years without an annual general meeting (AGM), Netball Jamaica (NJ) is finally set to announce the date for the elections of its board members. According to Simone Forbes, Netball Jamaica’s first vice-president, the organization’s members are eagerly anticipating the news, which will be shared with them this afternoon.
The last AGM held by Netball Jamaica took place in 2021, marking a significant gap in the required yearly meetings. However, Forbes emphasized the importance of implementing systems to ensure that AGMs are held on time in the future, stating, “we should never go back to this place where it is more than a year outstanding as it relates to having an AGM.”
All current positions in Netball Jamaica, including the presidency and directorship roles, are up for re-election this year. Tricia Robinson, the incumbent President, has not yet confirmed whether she will be seeking re-election. Robinson took over the presidency in February 2020 from Paula Daley-Morris, who led the organization for four years.
Forbes, a former captain of the Sunshine Girls senior team, expressed her excitement about the upcoming AGM and elections, noting that measures are being put in place to ensure the smooth running of the organization. She also mentioned that the audited financial report is still pending but is expected to be completed in time for the AGM.
Overall, the announcement of the AGM and elections marks a significant step forward for Netball Jamaica, ensuring that the organization remains transparent, accountable, and actively engages its members in decision-making processes. The elections are slated to take place in 2024, providing an opportunity for new leadership to step in and continue the growth and development of netball in Jamaica.
