Nike and NBA Extend Partnership to 2037 with Focus on Youth and Women’s Basketball
NEW YORK, United States – In a landmark agreement that cements a longstanding relationship, the NBA and Women’s NBA have announced a 12-year contract extension with Nike Inc., securing the sportswear giant’s role as the official provider of uniforms, apparel, merchandising, marketing, and content through to 2037. This extension, which also encompasses the developmental G-League, highlights the shared vision between the leagues and Nike to foster the growth of basketball across all levels and demographics.
The announcement arrives at a pivotal moment for basketball, as the NBA gears up for its 79th season and the New York Liberty are crowned champions of the WNBA. The renewed deal emphasizes innovation in the sport, with a particular focus on youth basketball and an expanded investment in the WNBA. Fans can look forward to a joint membership program designed to offer unique products, content, and experiences that celebrate both Nike’s and the leagues’ dedication to the sport.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver applauded the extended partnership, stating, "Nike is inextricably linked to basketball and has helped fuel the growth and innovation around our sport for decades. Our expanded partnership will create even more opportunities for aspiring players to learn and compete at all levels and for fans of all ages to engage with the NBA and WNBA."
This extension builds on an eight-year agreement established in 2015, which began with the 2017-18 season, and further solidifies Nike’s legacy within basketball. Since becoming an NBA partner in 1992 and aligning with the WNBA since its inception in 1997, Nike has played a pivotal role in shaping the basketball landscape.
Elliott Hill, Nike Inc. president, remarked on the collaboration’s significance, noting, "Nike has always been more than a league sponsor — we’re a strategic partner with an unwavering commitment to growing the game. Our collective power, global reach, and genuine love for the game will only continue to create new pathways and opportunities for players and fans."
The partnership also reaffirms Nike’s license agreement as the official partner of the NBA players union, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). NBPA Executive Director Andre Iguodala highlighted the importance of this alliance, stating, "This partnership highlights the reach, influence, and impact of our members, driving basketball fandom and inspiring millions of people around the world."
As part of the extended collaboration, Nike and the leagues are poised to enhance developmental programs and increase the visibility and engagement of women’s basketball globally. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert expressed optimism about the future, "Since our league’s inception, Nike has committed to a shared vision for girls and women’s basketball. Our continued partnership is an opportunity to fortify avenues for development and enhance touchpoints across our dynamic fan base."
With this renewed commitment, Nike and the NBA underscore their pledge to not only elevate the game on the court but to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community off the court, ensuring basketball’s legacy for generations to come.
