Trelawny, Jamaica — Following a devastating accident on the newly renovated road between Martha Brae and Bounty Hall, Falmouth’s Mayor, Councillor C Junior Gager, is calling on motorists to exercise greater caution. The fatal incident, which occurred on Wednesday, claimed the life of 17-year-old motorcyclist, Dwight Smart, from Bounty Hall.
The accident took place on Hammersmith main road around 9:30 AM when Smart’s motorcycle collided with a Black Nissan Sunny traveling in the opposite direction. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Smart succumbed to his injuries.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” Mayor Gager expressed. “I am imploring all motorists using the newly renovated leg of the roadway, and all the thoroughfares, to drive within the speed limit. Observation of the road code could save lives.”
The mayor also emphasized the importance of safety gear for motorcyclists. “Additionally, motorcyclists, I am urging you, please wear a helmet,” he added.
The Trelawny police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
This incident has brought to light the critical need for increased road safety measures, particularly on newly paved routes that might encourage higher speeds. Mayor Gager’s plea aims to foster a culture of responsible driving, which is essential to reducing accidents and saving lives.
