The Hyundai Santa Fe expertly blends rugged design aesthetics with futuristic nuances to create a striking presence.
Magna Motors Dealership Limited, the exclusive distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Jamaica, launched the next phase of its model line-up, the new Santa Fe and Kona Hybrid SUVs, on Tuesday, April 16, at its Oxford Road showroom.
Kona is new from the ground up, larger in every dimension, providing more interior space for passenger comfort and cargo capacity, and it features an all-new visual language with some elements that call back to the previous model.
Most striking are the seamless horizon lamps that function as daytime running lights across the nose of the vehicle. The body lines are sharper, but the unique C-pillar, dynamic roof line and headlight positioning from past Kona models remain. Rugged elements such as wheel arch cladding and front and rear skid plates keep the Kona’s SUV-like image. Inside, the futuristic design continues with what Hyundai calls an open-layout, high-tech driving space.
The Kona Hybrid is powered by a highly efficient, high-output hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and a 32kWh permanent magnet electric motor powered by a 1.32kWh lithium-ion battery and mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels, for a total output of 141bhp.
Even more dramatic is the all-new Santa Fe, with nothing exactly like its predecessor. In Hyundai’s own words, the Santa Fe expertly blends rugged design aesthetics with futuristic nuances to give it an imposing presence. Its upright, boxy shape contrasts with the smoother lines of the previous-generation Santa Fe, but makes a lasting impression, especially with the digital, low-res lighting signatures front and rear. The interior is equally bold, boasting plenty of high-tech refinements to deliver a distinctive experience for all seven occupants.
Also gone is the old 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, replaced with a new, more powerful 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine – giving the Santa Fe 281bhp. What remains is the HTRAC all-wheel drive system for maximum traction both on and off-road.
