In a dramatic response to devastating floods, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reportedly executed 30 officials due to their failure in mitigating the impacts of the natural disaster. The information was disclosed by UK media outlet, The Independent.
Catastrophic flooding struck Chagang province in North Korea this past July, leading to tragic loss of life and widespread displacement. Official reports indicate that more than 4,000 individuals lost their lives, while an additional 15,000 were forced to leave their homes.
The executed officials were accused of corruption and dereliction of duty. In response to the calamity’s aftermath, Kim Jong Un allegedly ordered strict punitive measures against those deemed responsible for the severe consequences of the floods and landslides.
North Korean state media have not confirmed or denied these reported executions.
