LIMA, Peru — World leader and defending champion Kerrica Hill continues to dazzle at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru. With her eyes set on a promising performance, Hill made an impressive display during Thursday’s semi-finals of the 100m hurdles, setting the stage for an exciting final on Friday.
Hill, who is currently the world leader with a time of 12.85 seconds and holds the championship record at 12.77 seconds, clocked in at 13.00 seconds (0.1m/s) in her semi-final race. Despite the cooler temperatures in Lima, she noted significant improvement in her second race of the day.
Reflecting on her performance, Hill said, “This one was better, like, it’s pretty cold, but the weather from this morning and now is pretty different. This one was better, the time was a little bit faster as well.”
Though the temperatures posed a challenge, Hill remained steadfast in her approach. “It’s really what I expected but as I said, it’s cold out there, so I don’t really expect anything spectacular right now; I am just taking it step by step to the final,” she added.
While Hill advanced comfortably, her compatriot Habiba Harris encountered a setback. Harris finished fourth in her semi-final heat with a time of 13.64 seconds (0.0m/s), placing her 11th overall and eliminating her from the final competition.
As the anticipation builds, all eyes will be on Kerrica Hill as she aims to maintain her dominance and potentially break new records. The final event promises to be a thrilling showdown, showcasing Hill’s resilience and prowess on the track.
