St Ann, Jamaica – August 28, 2024 – The youthful cricket teams of Kensington and Westmoreland have clinched their spots in the highly anticipated final of the Kingston Wharves Under-15 Cricket Competition. This comes after impressive victories in their respective semi-final matches, setting the stage for an exciting showdown at the Ultimate Cricket Ground in Discovery Bay, St Ann, on Friday.
Kensington’s Dominance Over St Mary
Kensington’s journey to the final saw them overcoming the experienced St Mary team who had previously won the championship in 2022 and finished as runners-up in 2023. In their semi-final clash held at Jack’s River on Tuesday, St Mary struggled after winning the toss and could only manage a total of 74 runs all out in 34.4 overs. Marcodean Dunn and Leonardo Silvera were the primary contributors with scores of 23 and 18 respectively.
Kensington’s bowlers were in exceptional form. Abraham Waugh delivered a stellar performance, taking three wickets for just six runs. He was ably supported by Zachary Buchanan, who also captured three wickets for nine runs, and Andrew Lloyd, who chipped in with two wickets for 22 runs.
Chasing the modest target, Kensington reached 75 for one, securing victory with nine wickets to spare. Zachary Buchanan led the charge with a solid 28 runs, while Waugh added 24. Shavaughn Boyd was the sole wicket-taker for St Mary, but his efforts were not enough to stave off defeat.
Westmoreland’s Resilience Against Melbourne
The other semi-final featured a tenacious Westmoreland team facing Melbourne at the Paradise ground. In a low-scoring affair, Melbourne batted first but were bowled out for a paltry 28 runs. Despite their previous high score of 365 in the quarter-finals, Westmoreland’s batsmen had to dig deep, losing six wickets before surpassing the target with 29 runs.
Looking Ahead to the Final
With Kensington seeking their first hold on the Kingston Wharves U-15 trophy and Westmoreland riding high on recent form, the final promises to be a thrilling encounter. Following the conclusion of the tournament, 24 standout players will be selected to form the national team in preparation for next year’s regional championship.
The cricket community eagerly awaits the culmination of the Kingston Wharves U-15 Cricket Competition, marking the end of a season filled with remarkable performances and emerging talent.
