LOS ANGELES, United States (AP) — Rap sensation Kendrick Lamar is set to headline the NFL’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans next year. The announcement was made on Sunday by the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation.
Lamar, who has 17 Grammy Awards to his name, will lead the halftime festivities from the Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025. The rap megastar expressed his enthusiasm for the event, aiming to showcase the enduring influence of hip-hop on a massive platform. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” Lamar stated. “And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
Since his breakthrough with the debut album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” in 2012, Lamar has achieved monumental success. He not only amassed 17 Grammy wins but also made history as the first non-classical, non-jazz musician to receive a Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album “DAMN.”
Lamar’s latest project, the 2022 album “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” includes the hit track “Like That” in collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin. The song secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks this year. Another recent success for the rapper is the single “Not Like Us.”
Last year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show featured an electrifying performance by Usher, joined by guests such as H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Alicia Keys. The tradition of delivering unforgettable musical performances continues with Lamar’s upcoming show.
Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music and Beats, emphasized the significance of the halftime show, saying, “The Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show is a celebration of the music we love and the incredible artists who make it, all on the world’s biggest stage.”
Fans worldwide eagerly await what promises to be a remarkable performance, further cementing Lamar’s legacy as one of hip-hop’s most influential artists.
