The story behind the product packaging
For our flagship product, Spicy Coffee Gourmet Jelly, we used jars which are easily available locally. However, the current shape and size of the jar matches well with the Camgar logo. The wide neck of the jar allows easy access to the product and the portion is just right for one person to eat.
Tea bag coffee was developed from the idea of a convenient way to dispense coffee in small portions to fit the hot cups found in most offices.
We made these products
I had invested in a 5-acre coffee farm with another person. My partner cheated me and I ended up losing all the money I invested. I had a choice to take the loss and give up or try something else. Coffee was what inspired me to start my own business. So instead of giving up completely, I decided to start my own brand. I didn’t need to have a farm to build a brand and I wanted to create a niche.
Coffee is beloved and easily incorporated into a variety of savory and sweet dishes, so it was with this in mind that the Camgar coffee line was shaped.
The first breakthrough
Perfecting the formula for my Spicy Coffee Gourmet Jelly was a big breakthrough for me. I had the formula developed but there was a step I was missing in the process that meant the consistency of the product wasn’t right. Once it was perfected, I was able to attend shows like Denbay and local pop-up stores to showcase the product, sell it early and get feedback.
The product was released to the public
Spicy Coffee Gourmet Jelly appeared on the shelves of Central Supermarkets last August.
Our main customers are
Retail company.
What is the reaction to the product?
positive!
My product is successful because
These are like a classic twist on everyday foods. Coffee is a niche market and at the same time the third best selling commodity in the world. Hence, the overall love affair with coffee will always be replaced by coffee infused products.
I am growing my business
A much-loved local and international brand committed to developing and contributing to local jobs and supply chains.
My biggest challenge is
Financing and production facilities.
Raw material inventory management
No issues so far, products are made to order.
If I knew then what I know now
I would have invested in my brand instead of coffee farming, only to end up losing everything with no chance of recovering.
Jamaicans should support my product.
For us, it’s like the old-fashioned sinting is back again. We are a coffee-producing country that produces some of the finest coffee in the world, but has never gone beyond its traditional uses. This brand is like an ode to coffee lovers, while at the same time delighting their taste buds with something new and worth sharing. Plus, all the ingredients are locally sourced, so by supporting Camgar Farm, you’re also supporting local farmers.
