JFF to Strengthen Security Measures Following Parking Lot Incident at National Stadium
Kingston, Jamaica — The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has announced intentions to collaborate with Independence Park Limited (IPL) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to enhance security measures for vehicles parked during future matches outside the National Stadium. This initiative follows a recent situation that saw several cars with damaged windows and other issues during the Reggae Boyz’s match against Honduras.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the JFF expressed its concern over online videos showcasing the vandalized vehicles. The incident, which marred the celebration of the Reggae Boyz’s advancement to the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League, was described by the JFF as disheartening.
“At a time when the nation should be celebrating this qualification, a few persons have sought to mute the good feeling with selfish and illegal motives,” the JFF lamented. Following the circulation of the video, the JFF quickly investigated the matter, discovering that the affected vehicles were in an open area opposite the stadium’s main parking lot.
The JFF emphasized that it had coordinated with the JCF to ensure the security of vehicles within the official parking space of the stadium. However, with no direct control over security in areas beyond the stadium’s property, the JFF is now intent on working alongside IPL and the police to bolster security and ensure an incident-free experience for patrons.
In the interim, the federation is urging match-goers to utilize the main parking area, managed by IPL, which is equipped with proper lighting and security personnel. JFF has further advised, "If you choose to park away from the stadium, ensure that it is in a secure area."
