Jones’ representatives confirmed his death on September 9, 2024.
Born on January 17, 1931, in segregated Mississippi, Jones’ journey to stardom was marked by resilience and formidable talent. Overcoming a childhood stutter that nearly silenced him, he embarked on an illustrious career that spanned six decades and earned him universal acclaim.
