Dr. Rose Marie Adamson-Lewis Honored for Humanitarian Contributions to Jamaica and Beyond
New York City witnessed a heartwarming celebration this past September as Dr. Rose Marie Adamson-Lewis was awarded the prestigious Key to The City of New York by Mayor Eric Adams. This accolade was a momentous acknowledgment of her unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts, specifically through her relentless work as the president of the Jamaica Diaspora Southern USA (JADIAS).
In addition to this esteemed city honor, Dr. Adamson-Lewis also received a Conscious Clock Award from Dr. Hong Tao-Tze, leader of the World Peace and Love (FOWPAL). These awards recognize her impactful initiatives through Rose’s Garden of Hope Foundation, which she launched over 15 years ago in South Florida. The foundation has played a crucial role in supporting various causes in Jamaica, driven by a philosophy of giving without the need for public acclaim.
The health care specialist, originally from Manchester, Jamaica, has had a particularly active year, marked by significant achievements. Noteworthy among these was the collaboration with Carol Hylton from Smiley’s Voice Foundation to bring Dr. Norman Ajiboye, a renowned neurologist, to Jamaica. This initiative facilitated five critical surgeries at the University Hospital of the West Indies, reflecting Dr. Adamson-Lewis’s commitment to enhancing medical care in her homeland.
In June, Dr. Adamson-Lewis represented South Florida at the Jamaican Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay. By July, her efforts continued with back-to-school initiatives in Spanish Town, alongside Durany Lobban, an American Airlines flight attendant, emphasizing the importance of community support and education.
Residency in South Florida spans four decades for Dr. Adamson-Lewis, a trailblazer whose academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Masters in Education from the University of Miami. Her professional qualifications extend to being a Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a psychotherapist.
Through JADIAS, Dr. Adamson-Lewis oversees efforts across 13 states, fostering a network committed to giving back to Jamaica. She articulates this drive as deeply meaningful to Jamaicans living abroad, solidifying a tangible bond between the diaspora and their native land.
The honors from New York City and the World Peace and Love organization reflect not just her contributions, but the collective spirit of the Jamaican diaspora, who continue to uplift their homeland through dedicated work and genuine solidarity.
