Lima, Peru — An electrifying performance at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships saw Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team clinch their third straight gold medal with an impressive time of 43.39 seconds. The event was held at Estadio Atletico de la Videna in Lima, Peru, continuing Jamaica’s legacy of dominance in this category following previous wins in Nairobi, Kenya (2021) and Cali, Colombia (2022).
The Jamaican squad, comprising Alana Reid, Briana Campbell, Alliah Baker, and Shanoya Douglas, executed flawless baton exchanges to secure victory. Bronze medalist in the 200m, Shanoya Douglas, replaced Sabrina Dockery for the lead-off leg, setting a solid foundation for the team’s success. Alliah Baker took over for the second leg, passing the baton to Briana Campbell, with 100m champion Alana Reid anchoring the final stretch to victory.
While Australia initially crossed the line in second place, they were later disqualified along with the USA team due to infractions. This adjustment saw Switzerland elevated to the silver medal position with a national Under-20 record time of 44.06 seconds. Canada claimed the bronze medal with a time of 44.60 seconds.
This victory reinforces Jamaica’s prominence in the world of athletics, particularly in the sprinting disciplines, and highlights the seamless teamwork and athletic prowess of the young Jamaican athletes.
