Food Awards judge Kadian Wendrys stopped by the Pegasus Hotel last Friday…
Jamaica Pegasus has two main bars, Blend Bar and Pool Bar, as well as a food and beverage outlet called 24 Seven Cafe.
Blend Bar is located on the first floor of the hotel, close to the entrance and easily accessible, and is open daily from 4pm to 11pm. There is live piano music from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesdays, and surround sound background music at other times. The dress code is casual to business, with no tank tops allowed. If you’re looking for a quiet, discreet place to enjoy a drink and a meal, this bar is a good choice, especially with its subdued lighting.
24 Seven Café is also located on the first floor, just behind Blend Bar, and is immediately visible as you enter the hotel. As the name suggests, the café is open 24 hours a day and serves cold and hot drinks, sandwiches, and delicious cakes and desserts. It’s also bright and has poolside views, depending on where you sit. You’ll often find it bustling with guests catching up on what’s going on and sipping coffee or tea on their laptops.
But the highlight of our most recent visit was the pool bar, which was a pleasant surprise as it was recently renovated and expanded to include a covered, open-concept, full-service bar and lounge.
The pool bar is located downstairs and is open daily from 10am to 11pm. On Tuesdays they host “Grilled Food and Live Music” from 6pm to 11pm and on Fridays they host “Let’s Lyme” with a live disc jockey every week.
DJ Troy Finzi was at the console last week, playing tunes from around the world and keeping the party going all night. Bar service was impeccable, with Operations Managers Alrick Sucki and Daviot Pryce on-site to ensure the event runs smoothly every Friday night. I was very impressed with Sucki, who asked me and my guests to sanitize the bar tables and stools before we sat down, and then did so himself, wearing a gentleman’s suit. Sucki proudly introduced some of the bartenders and assigned me to Dwight, who was attentive throughout the night and ensured that every drink and meal order was delivered with a smile.
I must mention the high standard of service and experience at the Pool Bar, where I spent most of my time, and at the Blend Bar, where I chatted briefly with the bartender, Cian. The service is top notch! Pegasus got it right! Perhaps one of the reasons is that the hotel recognizes and celebrates its team members. In fact, last Friday they hosted a lunch for fathers in early celebration of Father’s Day.
Specialties on the Pool Bar bar menu include the Original, BBQ, Spicy Wings, Pegasus Burger with Mushrooms, Firecracker Chicken Balls, Teriyaki Pork or Shrimp Kebabs, Breaded Crab Cakes, and more. Both Blend Bar and Pool Bar offer a full menu and you can choose to go lighter or heavier. For example, the Chicken Sandwich is definitely on the heavy side and can be shared by two people.
The Pool Bar menu is based on the theme of “Drink” and “Sip by Sip”, and customers can freely create their own drinks while interacting with the bartenders. The most popular cocktails among women are the Coconut Rum and the “Ricettini”.
Pegasus’ two bars and 24 Seven Café are must-visit destinations for business or leisure, locals and tourists alike, and best of all, you’ll get great value for your money with great prices and a wide range of food and drink options.
