Team Jamaica celebrated a momentous victory as they claimed the Caribbean Golf Association 4-Ball Championship for the fifth consecutive time in Trinidad and Tobago last weekend. The Jamaican golfers showcased their talent and skill on the course, dominating the competition and bringing home multiple trophies.
With 20 golfers representing Jamaica, the team entered the championship with the largest contingent. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they emerged victorious, amassing 73 points to secure the overall trophy once again. Trinidad and Tobago finished in second place with 56 points, while Bermuda, Bahamas, Barbados, and the Cayman Islands rounded out the competition.
Team Jamaica’s success was highlighted by their performance in the various trophy categories. They secured wins in four out of the six categories, showcasing their strength and depth in the sport. The male/female breakdown saw the men winning three trophies and placing fifth in another, while the women captured one trophy and finished as runners-up in another.
Notable performances from Jamaican golfers included Dr. Mark Newnham and Owen Samuda’s victory in the Francis Steele & Perkins Cup for senior men, as well as Radcliff Knibbs and Keith Stein’s impressive win in the Higgs & Higgs Trophy. Other victories included Dorrel Allen and Victor Hudson’s triumph in the Ashraph Ali Trophy for masters, and Michelle McCreath and Maggie Lyn’s success in the Dessie Henry Trophy for females.
Jamaica Golf Association President Jodi Munn-Barrow expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, commending their hard work and determination in challenging conditions. The players adhered to their game plan and delivered exceptional performances, solidifying Jamaica’s status as a powerhouse in Caribbean golf.
