LIMA, Peru – Jamaica concluded the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, with a laudable performance, finishing fourth on the medal table as the event wrapped up on Saturday.
The Jamaican team captured a total of five medals, comprising four gold and one bronze, placing them seventh on the overall point tables with 59 points. This medal haul, though modest compared to the 15 medals secured two years ago in Cali, Colombia, and the 11 medals won in Nairobi, Kenya in 2021, underscores Jamaica’s enduring strength in track and field.
Alana Reid was among the standout performers, celebrating a triumphant win in the women’s 100m final. Her spirited performance was one of the highlights of the championships.
The USA dominated both the medal and point tables, repeating their previous success with a total of 16 medals, including eight gold, four silver, and four bronze. Ethiopia followed with six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, while China secured the third spot with four gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.
On the final day of the championships, Jamaica bolstered their medal tally with two gold medals in the 4x100m relays. However, the women’s 4x400m relay team faced a more challenging outcome. Comprised of Abrina Wright, Alliah Baker, Anecia Campbell, and Kelly Ann Carr, the team finished eighth with a time of 3:39.30. The USA clinched victory in the event with a time of 3:30.74, followed by Australia (3:31.47) and Great Britain (3:32.80).
In other events, Jade-Ann Dawkins placed tenth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.91 meters.
