Jamaica’s two-time world 200-meter champion Sherica Jackson and up-and-coming 100-meter sprinter Kishane Thompson are set to compete in their respective events at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.
The Gyulai István Memorial Meet is an athletics tournament held annually in Hungary.
In the women’s 200 metres, Jackson, who has the second-fastest time ever at 21.41 seconds, will compete against Julian Alfred of St. Lucia, Daryl Neita of Great Britain and Ranae Thaba Thomas of Jamaica.
She will compete in the Paris Olympics this summer, hoping to win her first Olympic gold medal in an individual event.
Meanwhile, Thompson, who currently holds the fourth-fastest record as a Jamaican man, will compete in the 100m at the Games against South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo.
Thompson won the 100 metres National Trials in a world leading time of 9.77 seconds, bettered only by Usain Bolt’s 9.58 seconds, Yohan Blake’s 9.69 seconds and Asafa Powell’s 9.72 seconds.
Tia Clayton will also compete in the women’s 100 metres, facing off against Americans Tamari Davis and Tamara Clark.
Clayton recorded a huge personal best of 10.86 seconds in the semi-finals of the tournament last week, securing a place on Jamaica’s Olympic team for this summer’s Paris Olympics.
