Jamaica — Fears that two-time Olympic sprint medal favorite Sherica Jackson would suffer a serious injury were allayed when her physiotherapist, Troy Evans, posted on social media that she was fine.
“Going to work through a hamstring spasm,” Evans wrote on his Instagram account, along with a video of Jackson taking off from the starting block and sprinting in the indoor warm-up area with coach Paul Francis looking on.
Evans did not say whether the video was taken before or after Jackson stopped near the finish line of the women’s 200 metres at Tuesday’s Istvan Gyulai Memorial, part of the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix and World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event at the Bregö Athletics Centre in Szekesfehervar.
Jackson was leading the race with about 50 meters to go but stopped, grimacing, and limped across the line.
She is bidding for her first individual Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games next month and hoping to add to her bronze medals in the 400m at Rio 2016 and the 100m at Tokyo 2021.
