KINGSTON, Jamaica — Authorities are currently investigating a major theft at Massy Distribution Limited’s Carifta Avenue location in St. Andrew, following the discovery of goods worth approximately $4 million being stolen from the company.
The theft came to light after discrepancies were noted during an informal audit conducted by the company. This triggered a thorough internal investigation which culminated on August 26, 2024, when the company’s senior staff, including managerial personnel, reviewed the CCTV footage.
Footage from the security cameras reportedly captured three employees, who worked in separate sections of the company, removing a significant quantity of Enfamil, Alacta, Jergens lotion, Amnens powder, and other merchandise from the warehouse and loading the items into a company van.
The suspects allegedly moved the items without authorisation, and no records of monetary transactions were found to account for the missing goods. The illicit activity was reportedly confirmed following a preliminary check of the inventory, revealing that the aforementioned items, valued at around $4 million, were unaccounted for.
The company has not yet released the names of the employees involved, and it remains unclear how long the thefts had been occurring before they were detected.
Massy Distribution Limited has since tightened its security measures and audit processes to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to probe the matter to hold those responsible accountable.
