Jamaica’s Fast5 Netball World Series team, the Sunshine Girls, are gearing up for the 2024 competition with a mix of experienced players and debutants like Cornilia Walters. Walters, a 20-year-old player who excels in both centre and goal defence positions, believes that consistency and self-belief will be crucial for the team’s success in the tournament.

With the Fast5 Netball World Series set to take place in New Zealand from November 9-10, Jamaica’s team is being touted as the most inexperienced in the competition. However, Walters is confident in the team’s talent and dedication, emphasizing the importance of self-belief and consistency as they prepare to compete against some of the best teams in the world.

Walters acknowledges the technical aspects of the Fast5 format, which features five players on the court at a time and unique rules compared to traditional netball. She believes that strategic thinking and using their heads will be essential for Jamaica to navigate the tournament successfully.

Despite the challenges of being a newcomer to international competition, Walters is excited about the opportunity to represent Jamaica on the global stage. She attributes her success in netball to hard work and dedication, which have been instilled in her since her primary school days.

The main goal for Jamaica’s Fast5 team is to win a medal, with Walters aiming for the top spot on the podium. She understands that confidence will play a significant role in achieving this goal and is focused on building her self-assurance as the competition approaches.

With a talented squad led by experienced staff, including Maureen Brown and Nardia Hanson, Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls are poised to make a mark at the Fast5 Netball World Series. As they prepare to face off against stronger and more experienced opponents, Walters and her teammates are ready to bring their A-game and showcase their skills on the international stage.
